A Border Patrol agent who was killed by members of a trans vegan cult was buried with full military honors on Saturday.
David Maland, 44, who went by the name “Chris,” was shot dead during a traffic stop involving two members of the trans cult known as the Zizians, in January. The driver of the car is accused of opening fire on Maland and other agents, leading to a shootout that left Maland and her companion dead.
The Zizians are linked to a spree of killings across the US.
The group’s leader Jack “Ziz” LaSota was arrested last week along with two other members of the cult in California. They face multiple charges, including trespassing, obstructing and hindering, and possession of a handgun in a vehicle.
Maland was an Air Force veteran and worked for the government for 15 years. He first joined Border Patrol in Texas.
“Chris was a loving son, brother, uncle, fiance and dedicated colleague,” his family said Friday in a statement.
“His kind heart and fighting soul made him a warm and inviting person to be around and pillar of strength for his country.
“We love you, Chris. You’ll live in our hearts forever.”
Following Maland’s killing, the FBI’s field office in Albany confirmed that it was conducting an investigation of the group’s activities in North Carolina, where members of the cult, including the two individuals involved in Maland’s killing, were living.
